Obtaining Apps

The current categories of apps that support HiCar are:

  • Maps: including common online maps
  • Audio: including music, audiobooks, children's stories, news
  • Parking Entertainment: including video, games
  • System Apps: including calling, calendar, weather, AppGallery, etc.

All apps that support HiCar are mobile apps — they are downloaded, installed, and run on your phone, without affecting the storage or operation of the head unit system. However, there are two ways to install these apps:

Install from the Head Unit App Store​

The head unit app store mentioned here refers to the AppGallery displayed in the HiCar app desktop after a successful HiCar connection, not an app store software that needs to be installed into the head unit system.

  1. After successfully connecting to HiCar, tap the first icon above the DOCK area to switch to the app desktop.

  2. Tap AppGallery (Huawei AppMarket), and directly install or update HiCar-supported apps from within it.

Install from the Phone's App Store​

  1. Go to your phone's Settings > More Connections > HiCar Smart Connectivity, then tap the HiCar-connected device under My Devices.

  2. Enter HiCar Smart Connectivity App Management.

  3. Tap HiCar Smart Connectivity App Download.

  4. Install or update HiCar-supported apps in the HiCar section.

More Apps (Direct Phone Screen Projection)​

Starting from version 13.2.0.415, HiCar supports directly projecting certain phone apps to the head unit for use.

  1. After connecting to HiCar, tap the first icon above the DOCK area to switch to the app desktop.

  2. Find and tap the More Apps icon.

  3. Check the apps you need, then tap Done. The apps you selected will appear in the icon list and be directly projected onto your head unit screen.

    tip

    For Amap (AutoNavi) and Baidu Maps, since they have previously adapted to HiCar, HiCar uses their adapted versions by default, not the phone projection versions. You can make a choice for them in "More Apps":

    • If you check Amap and Baidu Maps, the next time you open them, the phone screen projection versions will be used. Since they are direct phone projections, the features are more complete.
    • If you do not check Amap and Baidu Maps, you will continue using their HiCar-adapted versions. As adapted versions, they have relatively fewer features.

    You can try both and choose based on your preference.

  4. When using the projected version of apps in "More Apps", you can tap the screen and select Back or adjust the zoom level from the menu that pops up on the left side of the screen. For example, if the text feels too small, you can increase the zoom accordingly.

tip

Using "More Apps" requires meeting the following three conditions:

  1. Phone system version is HarmonyOS 3.0 or higher.

  2. The head unit screen is a touchscreen.

  3. The head unit screen height is at least 480dpi.

Bonus Apps​

Amap Auto (AutoNavi Automotive Edition)​

HiCar also supports Amap Auto (AutoNavi Automotive Edition). You can download Amap Auto from the official website and install it on your phone.

If you are particularly fond of Amap Auto, you can install it on your phone and then use it on your head unit through HiCar.

QQ Music Car Edition​

HiCar also supports QQ Music Car Edition. You can download QQ Music Car Edition from the official website and install it on your phone.
